The Shiatsu Therapy Association of British Columbia began as the Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies Education Society (SOTES) in 1990, which was created to provide a forum of support and education for all therapists of Eastern healing arts in British Columbia.
In 1995, the organization sharpened its focus on the promotion of the profession of shiatsu therapy, and the STA was born. The STA has worked diligently over the years to advance the knowledge and acceptance of this proven traditional healing art and to establish rigorous professional standards for the practice of shiatsu therapy in British Columbia.
The STA has accordingly been awarded the Occupational Title Protection for Registered Shiatsu Therapist, or RST, by the government of British Columbia. Registered Shiatsu Therapists train for a minimum of 1000 hours in eastern medical theory, western medical sciences and clinical applications. |
